It contains detailed descriptions of 266 specimens collected by the California Academy of Sciences expeditin of 1905-1906, as well as extensive field notes by the collectors, tables of measurements of shells and eggs, and 200 photographs of tortoises. The new foreword by Peter Pritchard, who his himself a specialist on Galapagos tortoises, includes the current nomenclature for Van Denburgh's names and a summary of the expedition with contemporary photographs and new maps.
